The Ops Stop provides your organization with a one-stop shop full of helpful operational resources offered by the Federal Reserve Banks. For this installment of the series, we are featuring the Account Management Guide, which we hope your organization will find beneficial.
The Federal Reserve Banks provide Accounting Services to financial institutions in their respective districts. As a result, we can help settle transactions efficiently by debiting paying financial institution accounts and by crediting receiving financial institution accounts. Although this process may seem simple, there are a lot of components that help make sure things run smoothly.
At over 100 pages in length, the Account Management Guide is a comprehensive reference guide for financial institutions that manage reserve accounts. The document outlines information related to the ongoing administration of reserve accounts, including:
- Federal Reserve Bank account structure
- Information tools
- Overdrafts
- Billing
- Account management during a merger
- Direct compensation
- Terminology
- Transaction code posting requirements
- Links to helpful information, including:
- Federal Reserve contact lists
- Concepts of Reserve calculation and maintenance
The guide is updated on an ongoing basis. In late March, Section II, Information Tools, was revised to remove the reference to the Accounting Totals by Service, as this service has been eliminated.
The amount of detail within the guide makes it a great resource for your organization. To learn more about Accounting Services, visit the Accounting Services overview page.
