Samantha Messman, a deposit operations specialist at Bank First (Off-site), oversees daily administrative operations activities such as balancing internal accounts, wires and check adjustments. Recently, Messman and Brandon Smith, another deposit operations specialist at Bank First, attended the Fed’s Check Adjustments Insights into Investigation Types (ITYPS) webinar. Messman knew this webinar would be useful to her team.

“We received an email about the webinar from the Federal Reserve and decided this would be a good opportunity for our team to gain knowledge about check adjustments,” Messman said. “Here at Bank First, we don’t have a specific person who handles check adjustments, but we wanted to ensure the team would be knowledgeable on the adjustments process.”

The fee-based webinar is the same price for any number of attendees on a single connection, making it perfect for full team training. As an added bonus, all attendees can earn up to 3.3 Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) credits and/or up to 3.3 National Check Professional (NCP) credits.

Learn from a subject matter expert

Federal Reserve Bank check adjustments expert Tracy Beauford hosts the webinar. She provides a basic understanding of the most common investigation types that institutions encounter in today's processing environment, including Encoding Error (ENC), Non-Cash Item (NCH) and Paid Item (PAID). A few of the important topics covered include:

  • Proper usage of each ITYP covered from the perspectives of both depositors and receivers of cash/return letters
  • Case submission requirements for various investigation types
  • Required forms and documentation associated with each ITYP covered

Smith was glad that he could take lessons away from the webinar after attending. “There were a few times we submitted Paid Item adjustment requests, and they would get denied. We didn’t understand why,” he said. “Taking the Insights into Investigation Types (ITYPS) webinar was beneficial and helped us do these kinds of adjustments the right way.”

Messman continued to explain the benefits of the webinar, including having Beauford as its host.

We highly recommend taking a webinar. It’s important to stay up to date on changes. Tracy was a great presenter and very knowledgeable. She made it fun, interactive and easy to learn.
